Miss Q, as she is affectionately called by her students, has been serving in children’s ministries and after school programs for several years. Additionally, she has interned in special education classes for the last two years of her Bachelor’s Degree. In fact, Miss Q. spends her summers out of the classroom in the pool...teaching swim lessons that is! Miss Q. is very comfortable in our school setting as she herself attended K-12th Grades in a private Christian School In addition to children she loves decorating for Christmas and going to Disneyland as much as possible. ICS loves having a team player and advocate for the children teaching our kindergarten class.

Prior to teaching first grade for Independence, Mrs. Hallerbach taught second grade at Escondido Christian School, worked as a substitute teacher for PYLUSD and homeschooled all three of her children. Mrs. Hallerbach enjoys helping out in Sunday School, hiking and learning about God’s word. While she loves teaching during the day, she loves learning in her free time. Mrs. Hallerbach is currently learning ASL and how to play the piano. ICS is blessed to have a teacher with such a sweet spirit and patient way in our first grade class.

Mrs. Cisneros or Mrs. C as she is known around ICS has been teaching for over 15 years and has specialized in special education. Mrs. C loves to travel, dance and watch her two kids play sports. She has had a life long love of learning. In fact,, many years ago she lived in Mexico for a month just so that she could immerse herself and learn the Spanish language. ICS is fortunate to have a seasoned, flexible and fun teacher in our second grade class.

Mrs. Taminich has been teaching at ICS since 2018 and loves third grade. Previously she has taught in the public school arena in but believes in the importance of Christian education and was led to ICS.. She and her family attend Cornerstone Church —ICS’s support church! Mrs. Taminich enjoys playing piano and singing. She can often be found leading worship during one of our weekly chapels. Mrs. Taminich is a talented asset to the ICS team,

Prior to teaching elementary school, Mrs. Scherer began her career in education as a preschool teacher. While she loved the little ones, she feels that she has found her home in the 4th grade class. When she isn’t in the classroom, Mrs. Scherer loves to travel. She has been to 13 countries and counting. Her high school sweetheart, now husband is her favorite travel companion. ICS is blessed to have a very grounded, creative and engaging 4th grade teacher.

Mrs. Monarres has been teaching at ICS since 2006 and is proud that her two children attended and graduated from Independence as well.. An experienced educator, Mrs. Monarres has taught fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth grade at ICS. She has been married to her terrific husband for 25 years and enjoys sewing, cooking and baking—especially decorative wedding cakes! Mrs. Monarres is flexible, consistent and dedicated. ICS has been blessed to have her on staff for so many years.

Miss Zwayne has always had a passion for teaching, working with children, and encouraging others to excel in their academic giftings. She consistently points her students to Christ and incorporates the Gospel and God’s Word into every subject she teaches. Miss Zwayne enjoys reading, writing, going to the beach, hiking and traveling when not teaching. Her ability to share her love for learning with the students is one of the many reasons Miss Zwayne is a perfect fit for our 6th grade class.

Mrs. Baca has been an educator since 2008 and joined the ICS team in 2014 teaching seventh and eighth grades. Although she specializes in math, Mrs. Baca brings fun and creativity to all of the subjects that she teaches. Mrs. Baca is the kid’s worship leader for ICS’s support church, Cornerstone Church. Praise and worship are her passion and she loves that the Lord has blessed her with the ability to write kids worship music. ICS loves not only having Mrs. Baca in the classroom but also on the stage leading worship in our weekly Chapels.

Coach Garrett can relate to his Elementary and Jr High P.E. students because he himself was once a student in the very same class. Coach Garrett grew up on the campus as he attended Preschool through 8th Grade at ICS. Some of his best memories were playing after school sports for the Patriots In addition to working with the students at ICS he is attending OCC‘s Film School where he is training to become a cinematographer. Garrett loves playing volleyball and watching all genre of movies. ICS loves Coach Garrett’s report with the students and his helpful spirit.

A Canadian by birth, Mrs. Jones moved to California in the 6th grade and fell in love with education. She has taught in both the public school system, as well as private Christian schools. From serving as a Christian Preschool and Kindergarten Aide, Resource, Pre-K teacher and even a private school director from 1995-2014, she has spent her professional career educating children. She is proud that all three of her daughters attended ICS. ICS is proud to have Mrs. Jones with her calm demeanor and wonderful creativity running our school library.
